Margaret Davison Gravlee, age 83, a life-long resident of Fultondale, Alabama passed away in her home on Friday, September 2, 2016 while being comforted by her family and friends. Margaret was born on June 24, 1933 to Mrs. Gladys Smith Davison and Mr. Barry Louis Davison.
She graduated from Lewisburg High School. While she was a student there, she was crowned Miss Fultondale in the city’s first pageant.
Margaret married the love of her life John Alford Gravlee on August 12, 1950. Margaret and John had four children Doris Michelle, Cheryl Jean, John Barry and Jeffrey Clarke.
Margaret was a member of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church. Her family and friends were the focus of her life, and she always managed to brighten everyone’s day with her mischievous sense of humor and her warmth. She loved to laugh and loved to bring laughter to others. She will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in her death was her husband John Alford Gravlee; her daughters, Doris Michelle and Cheryl Jean; her mother, Gladys Smith Davison; her father, Barry Louis Davison and her brother Wallace Kenneth Davison all of Fultondale.
Margaret is survived by her sons, John Barry Gravlee (wife Stephanie) of Prattville and Jeffrey Clarke Gravlee (wife Julie) of Gardendale. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Davison Powell (husband Clay) of Gardendale. Margaret was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren (Jennifer, Kristina, Emily, Alex, John and Conner), and the caring aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the New Gardendale Funeral Home at 2214 Decatur Highway in Gardendale, Alabama. Visitation at the funeral home from 9:30 – 10:00 AM for family and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM for friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. A graveside service at the Walker Chapel Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Mrs. Gravlee’s name to The American Heart Association.
