Edith Broughman Lugar, 99, of Thaxton, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Carriage Hill Retirement Home. She was born January 5, 1917, in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Robert David "Happy" Edwards and Cottie Smith Edwards. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eris Dutoy Lugar. She was retired from Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church. She is survived by her brother, Roderick Edwards of Bedford; niece and caretaker, Carolyn E. Martin; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 10a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Virginia Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
