Esther was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, lived in Texas, and in 1948 moved to Fresno.
During the Great Depression, she ran the family farm and used the surplus to feed hundreds of homeless and hungry people as they migrated West, looking for jobs.
She also worked as a portrait photographer and a receptionist for the Social Security Administration in Fresno. Esther considered the feeding of hungry people to be the most important thing she ever did.
She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Herbert Shamlian; and her daughter, Esther Ann Shamlian.
She is survived by four children, Mary Elizabeth Eurgubian, Edna Ruth Harvey, Ned K. Shamlian, Jr. and Paul L. Shamlian; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Yost & Webb Funeral Home on Friday, December 8, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
