He was born on July 24th, 1937 in Guilford County, the first born son of the late Kenneth and Kathleen Lanier Kennedy. A resident of this area all of his life, he worked at Monarch Furniture, and later retired as Plant Manager at Hooker Furniture in Kernersville. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and he enjoyed playing golf; especially at Pinehurst. His true love and passion was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his sisters, Delores Wilkerson, Judy Teague and Carolyn Garcia.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his son, Mike Kennedy and his wife Janet; his brothers, Jimmy Kennedy and Kenneth Kennedy and his wife Sarah. Also surviving are his granddaughters, Mindy Rogers and her husband Christopher and Sara Kennedy; his great grandson, Daymien Garza, and his future great granddaughters, Hensley Naomi Rogers and Cali Dawn Everhart.
A service to celebrate Darrell’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 2nd, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Reverend Joe T. Beane officiating. Interment will follow in Southside Cemetery in Troy. His family will receive friends on Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
