He was born on September 28, 1922 to Dominic Alfons and Frances (Zapalac) Rutta in Columbus, TX. On May 27, 1950 he married Bettye Jo McCue.
Bill graduated from Columbus High School, 1940 - entered University of Texas, 1941 - volunteered for Army Air Corps, served from October 1941 until February 1946 - resumed college at UT, graduated law school - licensed to practice law, August 1949, practicing attorney until full retirement in 2010 - served as Colorado County Judge from 1954 to 1962 - began operating Elliott & Waldron Abstract Company in 1952, remained in the family business until 2006.
He was a member of The First Baptist Church in Columbus for over 80 years, member of American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, and American Angus Association.
James is survived by his son, James A. "Jim" Rutta and wife Arden of Columbus, TX; brother, Sidney G. Rutta of Columbus, TX; grandchild, Christi Rutta Young of Houston, TX; 3 great grandchildren, Chloe Rutta, Olivia Rutta, and Sadie Rutta; sisters-in-law, Martha Rutta of Columbus, TX, and Frances McCue of Victoria, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Jo (McCue) Rutta; parents, Dominic Alfons Rutta and Frances (Zapalac) Rutta; brothers, Charles D. Rutta, Jerry P. Rutta, D. H. Rutta, and A. L. Rutta; sister, Lillian Ragsdale; and a grandson, Michael D. Rutta.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; and on Thursday from 8:00 am to10:00 am at Henneke Funeral Home, Columbus, TX.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, 10:00 am at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating.
Burial will take place in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus.
Pallbearers are Barry Rutta, Jared Rutta, Bill Hobaugh, Jon Jones, Patrick Moeller, and Stuart Hastedt.
