Her parents resided in Schenectady, where she was brought up. She was graduated from Union Classical Institute there and then prepared at Mrs. Peasy's School in Conway, Mass., for Mt. Holyoke College. Graduating from Mt. Holyoke in 1892, she became a teacher. Mrs. Demers and her daughter, Mrs. Wander, attended the fiftieth reunion of her class at Mt. Holyoke in 1942. Eighteen other members of the class were present.
She was married to Mr. Demers in September 1893, and came to Troy to live. In 1915 she served for a time as society editor of The Troy Record.
Mrs. Demers was a member of Philip Schuyler Chapter D.A.R., the Ilium Literary Club, the Mt. Holyoke Alumnae Association and the First Presbyterian Church.
The survivors are three daughters, Mrs. James J. McCarthy, Jr. of Palisades Bridge, Mrs. Wander, and Mrs. Margaret Demers Woodhouse; one granddaughter, Joanne Margaret Woodhouse; a sister, Mrs. Park F. Matteson of Slingerlands; a brother, George W. Boughton of Delray Beach, Delray, Fla.; a nephew, Lieut. George M. Boughton, and a niece, Mrs. Robert Nelson of New York.
