Samuel was a soldier in the War of 1812 and also served as a volunteer in the Winnebago Campaign. On the 21st day of December 1850, Samuel Blair of Pike county, Illinois, aged 53 years, made "declaration for the purpose of obtaining bounty land to which he maybe been entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have engaged in militia service of the United States." This act was passed September 28, 1850. This declaration shows that Samuel Blair was a private in Captain Adam Kious Co., 3 Regiment Ohio Militia from July 28 to August 16, 1813. He was again drafted in Fayette county, Ohio in the month of July 1814 and was honorably discharged at Franklinton, Ohio about the first of September 1814.
Samuel further stated in his declaration that he was a private in Captain Wiley B. Green's company in the Regiment commanded by Col. Thomas Neal, Illinois Volunteers, in the Winnebago Campaign in the year of 1827 or 1828 and that he volunteered in Morgan county, Illinois about the month of July and continued in service for the term of about thirty days. He was discharged at Jacksonville, Illinois on or about the 1st of September of 1827 or 1828.
