After their oldest daughter was born, they moved to St. Louis where their family grew to include three more children. The family returned to Springfield in 1978, and soon after Janette found herself a single mother. She decided to return to college at the age of 40 to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She was passionate about her profession and taught 3rd grade in Clever, MO for most of her career. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning an M.Ed.
She cherished being a grandma and loved spending time with her grandkids telling stories, coloring Easter eggs, camping in the backyard, and embracing teachable moments. Janette was a very talented artist, mostly sketching and working with oil paints.
She and her family were Charter members of Ridgecrest Baptist where she taught Sunday School, directed VBS, and worked as nursery coordinator.
She was proceeded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, her sisters and best friends Wanda Thompson (J.D.), and Thelma Towe (Paul), daughters Annette Abbott and Jane Collins (Warren), son Scott Abbott (Connie), and daughter Nicole Montgomery (John R.), 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren
