Donal Dean Curless, 75, of Jacksonville, formerly of Havana, passed away at 8:06 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born August 11, 1941 in Bluff City, IL at the home of his parents, Harley and Ina (Farwell) Curless, who preceded him in death. On April 15, 1972, he married Marilyn Matthews, who survives. Together they cherished their children, Ryan, Matt and Nicholas.

He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Raymond Lawson and Burrell Lane, nephew, Brad Lane, niece, Kateena Hicks-Lawson and sister-in-law, Barbara Matthews McBride. Surviving are sons: Ryan (Anne) Curless of Plainfield, IL, Matthew Curless of Denver, CO, Nicholas Curless of Havana and three grandchildren, Liam, Erin and Finnegan. Also surviving are sisters: Donna Lane of Springfield, Wilma Lawson of Jacksonville and brother Jack (Margaret) Curless, of Havana.

A sports enthusiast, Donal was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Illini. An avid golfer, he loved the competition of 18 holes and the camaraderie of the 19th. While in the US Navy, he served as part of Beach Masters and participated in the Cuban Missle Crisis Blockade. Donal retired from the State of Illinois, Secretary of State Office.

A man of great integrity who was devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Wayne Curless will officiate.
