LIMA — Carol Anderson, 82, of New Smyrna Beach, FL died at home Sunday May 1 after a long illness.

Carol was born Jan 1, 1934, the first baby born in the new Memorial Hospital in Lima. She graduated from Lima Central High School where she was an accomplished clarinetist winning numerous awards. She attended Bowling Green State University but graduated from Ohio Northern University with a BS in Education. Carol first taught at Lima South Jr. High then Lima Sr. High. She took a position at Defiance College, starting the major program in physical education for women and coaching all the women's athletic teams. Her efforts were recognized by inducting her into the Defiance College Athletic Hall of Fame. While at Defiance College she completed her Master's degree at BGSU.

Her family moved to Toledo where she was an elementary physical education specialist consultant then a teacher of the hearing impaired and deaf students. She then became the Dean of Girls at Devilbiss High School in charge of discipline and after thirteen years retired in 1988. She then moved to Florida and spent summers at Wall Lake , IN.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Mildred Casper) Miller and sister Dorthea (Merlin) Kohli. She is survived by two sons, Steven (Julie)of FL and Michael (Melissa) Anderson of Concord, MI, three grandsons, two step grandsons, two nieces, three nephews, several great and great- great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a long time family friend and caregiver, Ina Temple.

A memorial and celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later time. To honor Carol, donations may be made to ASPCA, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Make A Wish Foundation
