Virginia May “Jeanie” Adkins (nee Sefton), 78, of Upper Deerfield Township passed away on Sunday evening August 21, 2016 at her home.

She was born on April 13, 1938 in Bridgeton and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Matyger Sefton. She was the wife of John Thomas Adkins and they had been married for 30 years. A graduate of Bridgeton High School in 1956, she had lived at her current address in Upper Deerfield Township for 48 years.

Mrs. Adkins was most recently employed at Cumberland County JTPA (Workforce New Jersey) before retiring. Prior to that, she worked at The Cumberland Manor and also at the former Owens-Illinois Glass Company.

She was a member of the Bridgeton Fraternal Order of Eagles #2127. Throughout her life, she enjoyed macramé, knitting, crocheting, hand crafts, cake decorating, crossword puzzles and she also loved to read. In addition, she had been active as a volunteer with the March of Dimes. Jeanie had a love of animals and birds. She even adopted a rabbit, "Thumber," from her yard, trained and cared for "him" for five years. She was always full of energy and fun loving. She will forever be remembered as a dedicated and devoted wife and mother.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by one daughter, Debra Ann Rossello, two sons, Frank Harris Rossello and his wife Lisa and Nicklous John Adkins, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two sisters, Connie Ruston and Elizabeth Simmons. Jeanie was predeceased by a son, Ray Lewis Adkins, in July of 2015.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will originate at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Thursday morning August 25 at 10:30 and will be followed by an 11 o’clock Funeral Liturgy at The Parish of the Holy Cross/Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl Street in Bridgeton.

The interment will follow at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 and also Thursday morning from 9:30 until 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Virginia’s memory be made to American Lung Association, 1031 Rt 22 West, Suite 203, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
