Marie Dressler Weeps
At Burial of Dalton

Widow Fails to Appear, but Dead Man’s Mother Attends Funeral

Corning, N. Y., December 3,--While Marie Dressler, the actress, was present here today for the burial rites of James H. Dalton, her manager and reputed husband, Mrs. T. A Dalton of Alston, Mass., Dalton’s wife was not among the throng of mourners. Miss Dressler stood beside Mrs. Hannah Dalton; of Boston, Mother of Dalton, as the body was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Both wept. If there was any antipathy between the two women it was not exhibited.

The mother is known to have championed the cause of Mrs. T. A Dalton in her estrangement from her husband. Both Mrs. Dalton and Miss Dressler were guest until Miss Dressler left tonight at the of home of Mrs. T.M. Murphy, a cousin of Dalton, where Dalton’s body was removed upon arrival here. They were driven back to the house I separate conveyances after the committal rites.

Benjamin Dalton, brother of Dalton, refused to confirm or deny the reported marriage between his brother and Miss Dressler. Both Mrs. Hannah Dalton and Miss Dressler denied themselves to all interviewers, Miss Dressler apparently being content to let stand as fact a Chicago dispatch quoting her as saying that she never had been married to Dalton for the reason that Dalton’s wife refused to consent to divorce her husband.
