Obituary:
Waneta Louise (Lee) O'Brian, born Sept. 5, 1931, in Ethel, Mo., died March 10, 2006, in Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. O'Brian had been in failing health since December. Waneta was the youngest of six children born to Herman M. Lee and Eva E. (Cooper) Lee. After graduation from Ethel High School in 1949, she worked as a nurse at the Brookfield Hospital in Brookfield, Mo. It was there she met Donald O'Brian, and they were married Feb. 25, 1951. They lived near Brookfield when their first child Deanna was born. They moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where their son David was born. The family moved to Leavenworth, Kan., in December, 1959, and their third child, Donna, was born in Leavenworth.

Mrs. O'Brian was very active in school activities and was PTA president for one term at North Broadway. She then worked at North Broadway as a secretary from 1973 to 1988, when she retired. She was a long-time member of the Leavenworth Church of Christ and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Her favorite pastimes were counted cross-stitch, enjoying college basketball and professional football on TV, and she loved to visit her hometown of Ethel, Mo., especially for family reunions.

Mrs. O'Brian moved to Mission, Kan., in December, 2003, and lived at Mission Springs Assisted Living. She was predeceased by her father in 1985; her mother in 1992; her husband Don in 1991; and her sister Wava in 1999.

She is survived by her children, Deanna O'Brian, Prairie Village, Kan., David O'Brian and his wife Kelly, Allen, Texas, and Donna Holmes and her husband John, Anthem, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Catron, Malvern, Ark., and Monica Holmes, Anthem, Ariz; four brothers, Winford Lee, Nixa, Mo., Wilmer Lee, Wesley Lee and Warren "Jack" Lee, all of Ethel, Mo.; cousin John Lee, San Diego, cousin Earl Benham, Phoenix; and nieces and nephews. Waneta will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

The family will receive visitors at the Davis Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
