Mass of Christian Burial for Lilace Heisler, 80, of Buelah, formerly of Minot & Esmond, was held March 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died on Feb. 27, 2000 at Med Center One in Bismarck.
Fr. Daniel Hoedl officiated. Organist was Jennifer Hagen & the St. Boniface Choir provided vocal music. Pallbearers were Ray & Reuben Brown, Sergio Cacioppo, Vern Erck, Ray Fjellanger, Don Heisler, Leo Hoffner & Kenny Unrah. The Nelson Funeral Home of Esmond was in charge of arrangements.
Lilace M. Heisler was born on May 7, 1919 near Esmond to Alfred & Mabel Mortenson Brown. She was raised & educated there. She graduated from Esmond High School in 1937 & attended beauty school in Fargo. On May 8, 1939 she married Joe Heisler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. The couple made their home in Minnesota, where they were grocers for 12 years. They then moved to Minot, where they owned & operated Heisler's Super Valu & Trails Inn Restaurant. Following retirement they moved to Cass Lake, Minn. & later returned to Minot. He died on May 22, 1989. She continued to reside in Minot & lived with her daughters in Nevada & Massachusetts before moving to Esmond in 1998. In the fall of 1999 she moved to Beulah.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Minot & the Esmond VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Dianne White of Las Vegas, Nev. & Gale Cacioppo of Fitchburg, Mass.; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Gerald Brown of Victorville, Calif., Raymond Brown of Cass Lake, Minn. & Reuben Brown of Esmond; & 3 sisters, Helen Brady of Marysville, Wash., Arlene Hoffner of Esmond & Donna Bedford of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers, Clausie, Harry, Otto & Dale Brown; & 2 sisters, Leona Toso & Vivian Fjellanger.
