Son of Heite and Berentje Klaasen Ackerman. Married first wife Pearl Voss on May 30, 1921 and she died in 1949. Married second wife Lillian Drumheller in 1966 and she died in 1969. Farmed many years south of German Valley. Graduated Pleasant Prairie Academy of German Valley and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa. Was a school teacher for three years then later moved to Mount Morris. Retired from Kable Printing Company in 1972.
