Mr. Keith S. White, age 74, of RR 2, Box 2053, Laceyville, died peacefully at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Meshoppen on April 28, 1930, he was the son of the late George and Frances Stark White. Keith was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, Class of 1948. After high school, Keith served his country during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954. He was employed as a lineman with Commonwealth Telephone and later as an electrician.
He was an active member of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion in Black Walnut, the current Commander of the 40 & 8 Voiture #549 of Bradford and Sullivan Counties, Chaplain of the Grand 40 & 8 of Pennsylvania and was the present Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows Lodge #1152 of Wysox. In his spare time, he loved the out-of-doors, particularly fishing, hunting and baseball. Surviving are his daughter, Cynthia and David Engel of Niskayuna, NY; two sons, Arlin and Diane White of Gibson, PA and Randy White of Johnson City, NY; grandchildren, Leslie Engel of Brooklyn, NY, Jeffrey Engel of Niskayuna, NY, Christopher and Mariah White of Gibson; sister, Shirley Baker of Laceyville; brother, Garth and Linda White of Frederick, MD; several nieces and nephews. Friends joined the family for calling hours on Tuesday, Jan. 18 from 7 to 9 p .m. at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen. Members of the Odd Fellows Lodge #1152 of Wysox conducted services at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Sue Wenner of the church, officiating. Military services followed, conducted by members of the Rought Hall Post #150 American Legion and V.F.W. Endless Mountains Post #3583 of Mehoopany. Interment will be at a later date in the Jersey Hill Cemetery in Meshoppen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Guthrie Hospice, Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre or to the American Cancer Society.
