After graduating from Fairbury High School, she graduated from Nurses Training at St. Luke's at St. Luke's in Denver Co. and graduated Nebraska Wesleyan University where she was a sister of Phi Mu sorority.
Gene was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
She married her first husband, Dr. Robert B. Muffly, on June 19-1949.
On September 21-1980 she married Henry L. Dobbertien.
She enjoyed playing cards, antiquing, traveling, quilting, and knitting.
She loved animals, especially her dog, Frankie.
