William E. "Bill" White Sr., 82, of 787 S.R. 156, Florence, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1917, in Vevay, the son of Matthew T. and Abbie Lothridge White. he was a self-employed mechanic, truck driver, school bus driver and heavy equipment operator most of his life. He lived in Switzerland County all his life, and attended Florence Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Koons White; six sons, William E. White Jr. of Vevay, Edward R. White of Dayton, Ohio, Donald E. White of Madison, Wayne White of East Enterprise, Rocky S. White Sr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Mark White of Ghent, Ky.; one adopted son, Rocky Steven White Jr. of Butlerville; three sisters, Wanda L. Chase of Cleves, Ohio, Helen Adams of Rising Sun, and Mary K. Facemire of Gallipolis, Ohio; three brothers, Gerald White of Rising Sun, Jesse M. White of Vevay and Robert White of Patriot; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wanda R. McClellan White, on Jan. 17, 1985; one daughter, Brenda Kay White; four brothers, James, Richard, Tommy and Ernie White; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, with burial in the Vevay Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Vevay American Legion and Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Vevay American Legion Relief Fund.
