Mass of Christian Burial for Adeline Anderson, 89, of Jamestown, formerly of Esmond, was held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died June 25, 2004 in Jamestown. The Nelson Funeral Home of Esmond was in charge of arrangements.
Adeline Catherine Anderson was born Dec. 3, 1914 at Richardton to John and Theresia Leier Marthe. In 1918 the family moved to a farm in East Fork Township south of Esmond, where she was reared. She attended the East Fork School. She then lived for a year in Richardton with her grandmother, Theresia Newmann Marthe after the death of her grandfather. She returned to East Fork Township to work on the Riveland farm where she met and married Harley Anderson Oct. 18, 1939. They farmed in Rich Valley Township near Esmond until 1944 when they moved into Esmond. She worked for her sister at Ann's Cafe from 1953 until 1974. He died Nov. 4, 1979. She moved to Tower City in the summer of 1981 and back to Esmond in 1984. She has lived in Jamestown since 2001.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, its ladies aid and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers in Esmond. She also was a longtime member of the Esmond VFW Auxiliary and the Esmond Golden Age Club. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting afghans and cooking. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed amateur and professional baseball, with the New York Yankees as her favorite team.
Survivors include three sons, Bernard (Marilyn) Anderson of Jamestown, Lee (Rosie) Anderson of Butte, Mont. and Les (Debbie) Anderson of Minot; a daughter, Judy Downing (Larry Wickerson) of Bellevue, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Hildegarde Garmen of Kenmare; a sister-in-law, Margaret Marthe of Esmond; and a brother-in-law, James "Bob" Brown of West Fargo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Barbara Minette-Jurrens; three brothers, John, Daniel and Irvin Marthe; and five sisters, Agnes Severson, Ann Wentz, Isabel Marthe, Aurelia Waltz and Josephine Brown.
