Mass of Christian Burial for Donald R. Heisler, 64, of Esmond will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He died June 7, 2002 at his farm home.
Fr. Edmund Igbonna and Fr. Bernard Pfau will be celebrants. Helen Arnold will be organist, Rosalie Axtman will be soloist and the St. Boniface Choir will sing. Casket bearers will be Leon Arnold, Kenneth Bachmeier, Joe Binfet, Erling Karlsbraaten, Leo Hoffner and Elmer Wolfe. The Nelson Funeral Home of Esmond is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Richard Heisler was born July 2, 1937 on the family farm in Esmond Township to John and Catherine Axtman Heisler. He was raised there and educated at Esmond School, graduating in 1955. He also attended diesel mechanic courses for several winters at the ND State School of Science at Wahpeton. He farmed with his father until 1961 when he began farming on his own. He married Frances Lemar Nov. 24, 1967 at Esmond. He retired from farming in 2000.
He was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, a member of the St. Boniface Knights of Columbus and served as its financial secretary for 12 years. HE also serve eight years on the Esmond Township Board and was a member of the ND National Guard in Harvey from 1961 to 1967. His hobbies included league bowling in Esmond since 1961, golf and all sports.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bruce Heisler of Esmond; his mother, Catherine Heisler of Devils Lake; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eileen Wang of Liberal, Kans.; Elvina and Adrian Hoffner and Elizabeth Heisler of Devils Lake and Jim Erickson of Saratoga, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Elaine Erickson.
