Ira Franklin Morse was the son of Jonas and Lucy (Bowman) Morse. He married in Weathersfield, Windsor, Vermont 5 October 1817 to Rebecca Craigue, daughter of William and Esther (Adams) Craigue. Esther was a distant cousin to Presidents John and John Quincy Adams. The family was quite aware of their connection to these famous men as "Adams" was used for naming in the next generations.
The 1820 census has them in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont next door to Rebecca's parents.
In 1830, they are in Troy, Orleans, Vermont, also next to her parents.
The family moved about 1834 to Chenango County, New York to be near Ira's widowed mother in South Bainbridge (now Afton). By 1840, they are back in Orleans County, Vermont.
On 15 October 1845, Ira buys land in Chemung, Chemung, New York (later Baldwin). His widow sells this farm in Baldwin in September 1856.
Ira died on his farm of typhoid fever after an illness of ten days.
He likely is buried in Hicks Cemetery, a short distance from his farm, in an unmarked grave. Four of his brother William's children are also buried there.
