Oral W. Abernathy, 85, of Zalma died February 20, 1996 at Advance Nursing Center in Advance. He was born September 17, 1910 at Zalma, son of John and Ella Lemonds Abernathy. He and Mildred Sturgeon were married October 20, 1934 at Marble Hill.
He was a member of the first graduating class of Zalma High School in 1929.
He was retired from Missouri State Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Jim and Jack Abernathy; two daughters, Dolores Jackson and Shannon Shell; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Morgan Funeral Home in Advance was in charge of arrangements. Graveside survives were Thursday at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy.
