Written by Peggy Vinson Baird, Kenneth's sister 08-18-2016:

First there was Donnie McFarland. everybody called him crazy. Crazy McFarland. Just a nickname, just a kid. And then there was Sidney and if you knew him you didn't need to list his last name. You either loved him or feared him. Then it seems like all the others started to die. There was Lewis Lawrence and Dickie Warner, big Dickie. Ronnie Tull and Jimmy Warren. Cecil McCracken and Cannonball .... and little Jerry Anderson.
And then Dennis..Dennis Chaney. All good people, good guys. All childhood friends. They worked hard, they played hard and if they loved you, they loved you like nobody else.
Kenneth outlived them all.
Yesterday was Dennis' birthday and yesterday they said "Cat, we've seen you suffering. We don't like seeing you like this man. You need to come on with us" "We've got a party planned for Dennis birthday and we'll all be there. We want you with us".
And now he's with his friends again. His family of friends.
I hope that it happened exactly like that....

Kenneth had suffered a lot the last few years especially this last one. He is at peace with his family and his friends now. I knew this day was coming but I was not ready , I would have never been ready for this.
He was a really cool guy. He was my brother but If he hadn't been, I would have wanted to be his friend because he was just cool like that. It was good to know him. He was fun to be around.
Not many people know this but when my daddy was a young man his nickname was Cat and Bobby and Sidney Garner heard their daddy calling my dad Cat and they started calling my brother Cat. That's how he got that name and it stuck until he died. I always told people around Wills Point that I was Cats sister because they wouldn't have known who I was talking about if I said Kenneth. He was quiet with not much to say but he was smart. Much smarter than me. He was a carpenter, a perfectionist. One of the best I ever knew. He loved the old music, the good music from back in the day.. and he loved to fish. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and once told me it ruined his week when they lost on Sundays.
And did he ever have some great stories of some of the things that he and his friends did. It usually involved alcohol and a 'dare'. Good friends, good times. Gone too soon.
He's not suffering now and he is in a better place. I keep telling myself that.
With all his friends from his childhood. With mother and daddy and so many, so many that loved him. I know that they're all together now happy.... they're in a better place.
That's what I'm holding onto today.
Old times, old memories, old friends and new ones...and family.
