Age 22, of Fairfield Township, passed away suddenly, Sunday, August 6, 2006 in a jet skiing accident at Lake Cumberland with her boyfriend Greg Vaughn. She was born April 1, 1984 in Hamilton, the daughter of Tom and Beth (Shefcik) Filipek. Megan was a 2002 graduate of Badin High School, where she played soccer and ran track. There she also was a member of the National Honor Society and involved in numerous other activities. Megan was currently a senior at Miami University – Oxford, where she was an Exercise Science major and a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. While at school, Megan was a part-time employee at the Fairfield Parks and Recreation Office.

She is survived by her parents, Tom and Beth Filipek; sister, Katie Filipek; grandparents, Mary and Frank Filipek of Kankakee, IL, and Bob and Betty Shefcik of Fairfield, OH; aunt and uncles, Jim and Mary Filipek of Kankakee, IL, Bob and Kay Shefcik of Alsip, IL, Barb and Ross Bridge of Wheaton, IL, and Bill and Tish Shefcik of Madeira, OH; cousins, Brad, Christy, Mike, Danny, Brendan, Bobby and Matthew; and many other family and close friends.

Megan will always be remembered for her bright and cheerful personality that was accompanied by a contagious smile. Whether she was at school or doing athletic activities, she brought happiness to everyone she knew. Megan truly never met a stranger, and had a passion to succeed and had done so throughout her life. She received numerous awards and citations for her athletic and scholastic achievements and looked forward to future endeavors.
