Dorthy S. Hubbell, a member of a pioneer family that founded the historic Hubbell Trading Post, died Friday at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City. Mrs. Hubbell, a Sun City resident, was 94. The last family member to live on the trading post site, Mrs. Hubbell sold it to the National Park Service in 1967. Born March 26, 1899, in Indiana, Mrs. Hubbell came to Arizona in 1920 to teach the grandchildren of John Lorenzo Hubbell, who established the trading post at Ganado, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, in 1876.
She soon married Hubbell's son Roman and the couple resided on and off the site for several years. After her husband's death in 1957, Mrs Hubbell operated the the trading post for 10 years. In 1985, Mrs Hubbell was honored by the Sun City Women in Partnership. Shortly after, she received acknowledge-ment by then Gov. Bruce Babbitt as one of Arizona's "Women Who Work." She survived by a son, John and one grandchild. Services have been held. Menke Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Dorthy graduated from Bloomington Teachers College and was an elementry school teacher. She moved to Arizona about 1921. Dorthy was the Daughter of Mabel C. (Maiden name Wanee) and Harry S. Smith. Harry and Mabel married March 17, 1898 at Milton, Fayette, Indiana.
