William B. Fowles, son of William Fowles of Hooper, was killed in action September 30, according to a war department received yesterday by Mr. Fowles. The young man was 26 years of age. His last letter was received by his family on September 18 and spoke in optimistic vein of the ultimate victory which was sure to come.

Fowles left in October 1917, for Camp Lewis, being among the first to be sent from the county, He was attached to the 367th infantry.

William Fowles was aboard the steamship Moldavia, which was torpedoed in May but the young man was rescued. At that time news of his experience and or his safe arrival in Europe was published in the Standard.

The deceased has a brother, Nephi Fowles, in training at Camp Lewis.
