From the Reno Gazette-Journal, Sunday, November 23, 2003:

Ronald J. Vernon, 57, of Reno, NV, passed away November 20, 2003, in the arms of his loving family, from a strong fight against cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virgie; children, Shannon, Scott and Sarah; 3 wonderful grandchildren; brother Raymond; many cousins and friends.

He was born and raised in Reno, NV, graduated from Wooster High School, Class of '64, and recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, in Dec., 2002.

He was the Fire Chief at the Nevada Air National Guard with over thirty years of service. He was truly devoted to his military career and Fire Department.

He was a special and gentle man who influenced many lives with his ability to always see good in people.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Nevada Air National Guard, at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow. His remains will be cremated and scattered over High Rock Canyon at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital in San Francisco, CA.

A special thanks to all family and friends for the overwhelming love and support and to Saint Mary's Oncology Center.
