Betty Jean Carter was born on March 26, 1935, in Fort Worth to Rice and Eula Sanders Carter. She was a graduate of Poly High School. In 1950 she met Bill Bartolowits while working at the Martha Washington Candy Shop - a great place for service men to meet local girls. They were married in 1953 at Carswell A.F.B. Throughout her life, Betty had a keen interest in property on which Bill would build custom homes, attending garage sales and opening resale shops, antique, consignment, and appliance shops - all named "Barts." Betty also worked at Bailey's BBQ and Safeway during the '60s and '70s and then turned her attention to helping her sons in the furniture business and real estate acquisitions in the '80s. But her family remembers her most as always listening, encouraging and counseling them. She was a wonderful cook and the door was always open. Betty was the heart of their home and her legacy remains a loving warmth, guidance and vision shared with her children and grandchildren.
Bill Bartolowits preceded his wife of 62 years last Oct. 9, 2015, and they also lost an infant son, Ronald.
Survivors: She is survived by their sons, Mike and his wife, Kim, Tony and his wife, Martina, Steve, Joe and his wife, Cathy, and Brian and his fiancee, Heather; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.
