Jerry Lanier Atkinson, 81, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, died peacefully on July 28, 2016, following a long-time battle with heart disease. Jerry was born April 8, 1935 in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Howard and Leona (Nelson) Atkinson.

He is survived the wife he adored for 38 years, Sandi; his loving sister Patti Walden (Dennis); and a wonderful united family of seven children: Howie Atkinson, Trish Brown, Jerry Jr., Donna Chappas (Michelle), Genie Chris (George), Diana Stillwell (James), and Michael Smith; 13 grandchildren: Gregory Smith (Jennifer), Ashley Smith, Beau Atkinson, Paul Brown (Sam), Alyssa Brown, Zachary Brown, Chelsea Smith, Danny Brown, Lindsey Atkinson, Kaylee Stillwell, Matthew Atkinson, Garrett Stillwell and Taylor Burns; and four great-grandchildren: Katelyn & Matthew Cordua, Ethan Kirtley, and Bradley Smith. In addition, Jerry is survived by "daughters-in-love" Ann Marie Atkinson, Cynthia Waine Brandt, Mary Burns, and "sons-in-love" Michael Brown and Patrick Burns.
Jerry was currently a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, Altamonte Springs, but previously attended St. Ann's Church in DeBary. At St. Ann's he was a greeter, usher, and had worked in the food pantry. He was also one of many "Council of Catholic Women" husbands who donated time and 'sweat equity' to CCW events.
Jerry was a die-hard Georgia Bulldog fan who loved thoroughbred horse racing and a good game of gin. He was formerly a professional bowler with 14 perfect games to his resume. After much success in bowling, Jerry caught the 'golf bug' and had a hole-in-one before he ever broke 90.

Of all his attributes, his smile captured everyone. He was a man's man, as well as a man that loved women. He had more "girlfriends" at church, the doctor's offices, and even the supermarket, than anyone! His kindness, honesty, and most of all his steadfast faith in God will be remembered by everyone who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jerry's name to either of the following PRO-LIFE centers: Life Choices Women's Center, 441 Maitland Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL 32701, or Central Florida Pregnancy Center, 151 Howland Blvd., Bldg 1, Suite A, Deltona FL 32725.

"God is with us and there is no strength equal to His strength; no power equal to His power, and no promise equal to His promise." - Pope Paul VI

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Dry Prong with Bro. Mike Hegwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Frazier Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
