Anson and his family came came west arriving in San Marcos, California June 2, 1890. They settled on a farm in the Twin Oaks Valley. Anson raised cattle and also worked as a cook with harvesting crews.
He and Nora had five children: James Francis, Ilda Mae, Elsie Maude, Myrtle Viva (Walker), and Leland Anson
