Clara Lee Hodges Hayes

Mrs. Clara Lee Hodges Hayes, 83, of 1902 Hickory Blvd., Lenoir, a former resident of Vilas, died Friday morning, Nov. 24, 2006, in Glenbridge Health Care Center.

She was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Joel Bynum and Mamie Coffey Hodges.

Mrs. Hayes was a retired warehouse assistant for Singer Furniture Company.

She was a member of Hibriten Baptist Church and a member of the church choir.

Survivors include two daughters, Mamie H. Ford and husband, Paul, of Lenoir, and Carole H. Isaacs and husband, Glenn, of Granite Galls; one son, Roy B. Hayes of Cherryville; one granddaughter, Melanie Griggs and husband, Greg, of Henderson; three grandsons, Chris Hayes of Cherryville, Jay Ford and wife, Michelle, of Kings Mountain, and Jason Isaacs and wife, Jennifer, of Newton; five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kelli Ford of Kings Mountain, Hayes and Drew Griggs of Henderson, and Jeffrey Isaacs of Newton; three sisters, Beulah Bentley of Hickory, Mary Arnette and husband, James, of Vilas, and Peggy Austin and husband, Bill, of Boone; two brothers, Oscar Hodges and wife, Wava, of Vilas, and Jay Hodges and wife, Peggy, of Baltimore, Md.; six sisters-in-law, Snow Townsend and Gladyce Teague, both of Boone; Mildred Hayes and Melba Hayes, both of Vilas; Addie Lewis of North Wilkesboro, and Shirley Hayes of Taylorsville; a brother-in-law, Ernest Shore of Boone; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray D. Hayes; her step-mother, Exie T. Hodges; and a daughter-in-law, Marsha G. Hayes.

Burial followed in the Adams Cemetery.
