SPEAKES, VIRGIL DAVIS "BUD," 94, husband of Helen Rhodes Speakes, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006. Born in Paris, KY, he was the son of the late Orie and Jenny Speakes. He served during World War II with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kosair Shrine and the Scottish Rite. Survivors other than his wife include his children, Eleanor Buhl (Charles), Irene Hanley (Terry), Orie Preston (Sharon), and Sandra Hasson (Mark); a sister, Gladys Bailey; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial to follow in Bardstown Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky.
