She was truly a people person and had friends from all walks of life. Her latest passion was helping the homeless by handing out blessing bags. She began this project when she was driving back and forth for chemo treatments in Oklahoma City. She gave out 27 blessing bags this last year.
She graduated from Tonkawa High school in 1997, Northern Oklahoma College in 1999 and Oklahoma State University in 2001. Her degree in Psychology lead her to the helping professions. She worked three years for Edwin Fair Community Mental Health Center and a year as a school based social worker in Pawhuska. Amber’s most recent position was a bar supervisor at the Tonkawa Casino. Amber was a member of the First Christian Church of Tonkawa, and a member of the Three Sands ABATE; their mission is to promote and defend motorcyclists’ freedom, safety, and awareness through education and legislation to make Oklahoma the best place to ride.
She is mourned by her parents, John and LaDonna McCune; step-mother, Patty McCune; children, Gavynn and Harper; brother, Tracy McCune; sister, Regina Sharp; and brother, Joshua Sensintaffar.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Winnie and LeRoy Young, J.C. and LaVerna McCune, Wayne and Dora Haen, and cousin, Kelly Nelson.
Amber’s life brought inspiration to many people. Even though she was faced with pancreatic cancer, she always had the spirit of generosity. Her hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer does not end in defeat, but with a victory in Jesus. The family would like to extend their thanks to the town of Tonkawa and the surrounding communities for their enduring support and prayers.
A funeral ceremony for Amber will be held at the Christian Life Church in Tonkawa on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. with pastors, Josh Reece and Daniel White, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home in Tonkawa.
Casket bearers will be, Tracy McCune, Gavynn Stout, Nick Bond, Fred Hockert, Garrett Bailey, and M.C. Bruno. Honorary casket bearers will be, Terry Nelson, Steve McCormack, Erik Edgar, Jim McCune, Tommy Stout, and Nick Payne.
