Marvin was a truck driver for BFI until he retired. He was a member of the Mutual Musician Association and was a former union steward.
He was a member of the Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ and played the guitar for the church.
He was married four times: Peaches Montague Williams,20 Sep 1951; Jodie L. Atkinson, 19 Dec 1954; Ruth Jo Thompkins, 01 Jul 1966; and Shirley A. Hampton, 22 Nov 1980. Marvin biologically fathered 8 children; and additional parented 3 step children.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Shirley Hampton Allen; his children Marva Allen Mosley , LaChelle, Marvin Jr., (Tamika) Troy, Tommy (Loretta), and Dave (Pat) Allen and; his stepchildren, Sue McCarthy, La Shaye and Roger Hill, and one brother, James (Elsie) Allen; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grand children, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ with Bishop W. B. Henderson officiating. Burial, Leavenworth National Cemetery. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
