Gary Edward Knapp was born in Sterling, Illinois August 11th, 1954 the son of Leonard Edward, LaVonne Knapp and Helen Knapp. After Graduating from Sterling High School in 1972, Gary served in the Army from 1972 to 1975. Gary was no stranger to hard work . As a young boy he delivered papers for the Daily Gazette and washed dishes at Miami Hotel. He was a steel worker at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling and he built boat motors at MerCruiser in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Gary enjoyed working outside and his dogs. He was known for his big appetite and his love for the Chicago Cubs. His smile warmed everyone's heart.
Survivors include his sister and brother- in- law Debra (Knapp) and Mark Lewis of Ionia, Michigan, stepsister Mary Kay Whaley of Sterling, nieces Tammy Whaley of Bryan, Texas, Lori Shuman of Sterling, Kim Whaley of Sterling, Kristy Tate of Rock Falls, Illinois, nephew Trent Edward Lewis of Belding, Michigan, great nephew Sean Edward Lewis, and great niece Kaitlyne Ann Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Edward, mother, and stepmother Helen.
