During their marriage Anna Sophia gave birth to five children. Only two, Gottlieb Friedrich August Albertz and Augusta Friederike Helena Albertz Iwen lived to adulthood.
Late in 1855, Anna Sophia was widowed. To date, Mr. Albertz's grave has not been located.
In June of 1856, she married a neighbor, J. Friedrich Radtke. During their marriage, she gave birth to 11 more children; five sons lived to adulthood.
Anna Sophia suffered from diabetes, for which there was no cure during her lifetime, but through will power and exercise (walking every day) she was able to control her weight and live 20 years after it first developed.
One can only imagine the strength and perseverance of this woman who crossed an ocean, was widowed when she was 24 years old, gave birth to 16 children, but lost 9 of them when they were babies, battled a serious disease and farmed with both of her husbands.
Those of us who are counted among her hundreds of descendants owe her a debt of gratitude.
