Mrs. Martha (LONG) ASHCRAFT, a prominent civic and church worker, from one of the pioneer families of eastern Greene County, aged sixty-two years last January, and wife of E. Kirby ASHCRAFT, died suddenly this forenoon at her home on South Franklin Street. She was the daughter of John and Catherine {SPINKS} LONG, of Center Township. She spent her entire life in Greene County. Her uncle, Martin C. FULK, pioneer Baptist minister, and cousin, Patrick FULK, also a Baptist minister, are known with the LONG families as pioneer stock from Greene County. She was married to E. Kirby ASHCRAFT, September 15, 1895, by Rev. Martin C. FULK. To this union five children were born, all of whom with the husband, survive: Garland ASHCRAFT, of Cleveland, Ohio; Carter ASHCRAFT, of Chicago, Illinois; Hallie ASHCRAFT, of Chicago, and Mrs. Warren BRANSTETTER, of Sullivan, and Miss Avis ASHCRAFT, at home. In 1914 when E. Kirby ASHCRAFT was elected clerk of the Greene Circuit Court, he moved his family from Owensburg to Bloomfield and they have made their home her ever since. Mrs. ASHCRAFT had undergone an operation at the Sullivan hospital last September, and was improving until a week ago when she became seriously ill. She had long been a member of the M. E. church, spending much of her time in church and civic work. She was exceedingly unselfish, always looking after the interests of her friends and neighbors. Beside the immediate family, one brother survives her, {David} W. LONG of Rantoul, Illinois. The funeral services will probably be held Saturday afternoon at the M. C. church.
