One of 13 children of Philip and Catharine Leddick.

"One of the oldest citizens of Waterloo passed away Thursday when Samuel Leddick died at the ripe age of 91 years. He was a native of the town of Varick and had lived in Waterloo and vicinity for eighty-nine years. Consequently he knew much of the early history of Seneca county. He had been for some time in feeble health. Deceased is survived by three children: Charles Leddick, of Waterloo; Mrs. Isaac Jolley, of Fayette, and Mrs. George Wellbury, of Seneca Falls. His death occurred at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. William Bahne." (Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, 10 February 1900)

"Samuel Leddick, the youngest of thirteen children, son of a Revolutionary Soldier, who was bass drummer to the band which preceded the procession on its way to the gallows, at one time worked for Herman Brehm, Seneca County Historian, and has often related to Mr. Brehm the following incident as Chapman walked between the sheriff and his spiritual adviser, a man trailing along asked Chapman if he could assist him. No, said the condemned man, you owe me for a suit of clothes that I made for you and I want no assistance from such as you." (Excerpt from an article about the 100th anniversary of the 1829 hanging of George Chapman at Waterloo, New York. Published in the Seneca County Times on 30 May 1929)
