Mr. Hernandez was born October 25, 1944 in Wild Horse, TX, the son of Secundino and Conception Martinez Hernandez. He married Marjorie Roark-Swedeen on September 2, 1987 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Donald D. (Sherrill) Hart, Boiling Springs, SC; Daniel W. Hart, Galesburg; Robert D. (Lori) Swedeen, Alliance, Neb., and Jason J. Swedeen, Orlando, FL; two daughters, Cris Ann Garza, Sterling, IL and Merijo (Eric) Wolfe, Galesburg; a brother, Jose (Ophia) Zalazar, Rock Falls, IL; six sisters, Jesse Miniel, Gloria Hernandez, Josie Hernandez, and Mary (David) Ortez, all of Sterling; Carmen Cantu, Rock Falls, and Alice (Clyde) Tipton in Tennessee, and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He was a laborer at the former Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 29 years. He retired March 5, 2005. He had lived in Galesburg since 1976. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sterling and attended school there. He was a member of the United Steel Workers. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed horseshoeing and gardening, and was a devoted grandfather.
