His full name was Harlan Wilson Pomroy Fugate.

He first married Minnie Hounshell, in 1900. But she died the following year. Then he married her sister Armina Hounshell, in 1906. But she died the following year.

For his third wife, he married Martha Helen Hagins in 1908. They had eight children, and Harlan ran a store. Helen died on July 21, 1929.

Shortly after that, later in 1929, Harlan got married for a fourth time, to Armina Clemons Napier. She was also a widow. She was first married to Russell Napier and they had two children (Violet and Edna). Armina raised Harlan's children, along with her two children. They were seen living together in the 1930 Census Report, and Armina's mother Christyann McDaniel lived with them. Armina's father James Clemons was then married to his second wife Isabelle Combs, but he died later that year.

Sometime between 1930 and 1940, Harlan and Armina separated. She was seen in the 1940 Census Report, living with her mother, her daughter Viola, and another child named Sophrona Napier.

In 1940, Harlan married his fifth wife, Louvina Walters. She was also a widow.

In 1942, Harlan was the postmaster at Wilstacy, Kentucky (Breathitt County).

On August 1, 1956, a claim was made for his social security, and so he either died on that day, or shortly before.

Louvina died on June 17, 1967 in Indiana.
