Charles A Carter, 93

Charles A Carter, 93, founder of Tex-Tube, Inc., died peacefully August 30, 2008. Carter was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX and Texas A&M. He served as president of Tex-Tube, and vice president of Detroit Steel Corp./Cyclop Corp. of Pittsburg. Carter then served as vice president and board member of Cyclops, returning to Houston as president of the Tex-Tube Division, where he remained until his retirement in 1979. Carter is past director of Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Co., the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Texas Association of Business, and the Young Presidents' Organization. In Houston, he was on the Boards of Reed Roller Bit Co,.,Northwest Bank & Trust, Surety Savings Association, Triten Corp., and Smith Industries. He is a past director of the Houston Chamber of Commerce, past trustee to the United Fund of Houston, and past director of the Houston branches of the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Carter served as chairman of the board of Oil Country Specialists, Ltd., and as a partner at Alamo Tubular. Carter is survived by his beloved wife, Wita; four children, Carole Frederking, Cay Butler, Craig Carter, and Jennifer Tate; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Forest Park Wertheimer Funeral Home.
