Carlsbad-A funeral for Marley J. Cooper, 94,, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Anthony Bryant of Fox and Lake Church of Christ and Ray Young of Sunset Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.

He will lie in state 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home.

Mr. Cooper passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Carlsbad Medical Center.

Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marley Joseph Cooper was born Jan. 23, 1911, to William and Louella Ketchum Cooper in Bonnerdale, Ark.

After graduating from hig school in Arkansas, Marley lived in St. Louis, Mo., during World War II and worked as a civilian security guard at the ammunition plant for the defense unit. He then moved to Oregon, where he worked as a lumberjack and worked in the sawmills for more than 32 years.

After retiring, they moved to Carlsbad, where Marley was known as an outstanding boot maker and made boots for many people in the community. He was a long time member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ.

His wife of 67 years, Pauline Cooper, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Ima Jo Craig and husband Dick of Carlsbad; four grandchildren, Scott and wife, Kellie Craig of Gilmer, Texas, Steve Craig of Sherman, Texas, Darlene Jones and husband, Ron, of Albuquerque and Stan Craig and wife, Janda, of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Cecil Cooper of Carlsbad; a sister, Hazel Tackett of Carlsbad; and seven great-grandchildren.
