James Burns Bowry, 90, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, in the presence of his loved ones.
He was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving in World War II and later retired from VEPCO/Dominion Power as an Electrical Supervisor/Estimator after 40 years of dedicated service. He was an active member in the community and was a part of the Pulaski Club, Exchange Club, a Volunteer Firefighter, American Legion, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also enjoyed woodworking, painting, genealogy, gardening and yard work but he especially enjoyed spending time with family and loved football. He was a true Redskins and William and Mary football fan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Millie Bowry. He is survived by his daughters, Glinda Bowry Walker (Richard) and Bobbie Bowry Walsh (William, III.); grandchildren, Martinee Avery, Shelley Arnold, William J. Walsh, IV., Ryan Walker, James Brannon Walsh; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Avery, Mason, Marcus and Miles Walker, and Jack and Betsy Walsh.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd. Williamsburg, VA, on Friday, August 5 from 6-8pm. A service will be held at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 3287 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA on Saturday, August 6 at 1pm. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 809 S. Henry St., Williamsburg, VA.
