Enlisted at Dixon Illinois October 7, 1864 mustered in October 13, 1864 as a Recruit with Co. K. 75th Illinois Infantry transferred to Provost Guard Headquarters 4th A.C. June 7, 1865 mustered out October 18, 1865 from Co. C. 21st Illinois Infantry.

He applied for his pension July 17, 1890 from the state of Kansas app # 843,227 his widow Fannie J. Agler applied for his pension from the state of Iowa app# 832, 386 on July 26, 1905.

Pension states served with Co. K. 75th Ill. Inf and Co. C. 21st Ill. Inf.

NOTE--- there is also another John E. Agler that served as Pvt with Co. K. 75th Ill he is buried at Wyoming Cem. Paw Paw Ill. his pension was applied for by his widow Gertrude in 1913.
