Newport News - Orval Joseph Ancel, 68, a Peninsula resident since 1970, died Monday, Sept. 14. A Bay City, Mich., native, he retired in 1986 as the owner and operator of Planning Services Co. Mr. Ancel was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II; he received the Air Combat Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Mr. Ancel was a member of the Hampton Golf Association, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton. Survived by four daughters, Patricia A. Chamberlain and Cynthia A. Ancel of Newport News, Michelle A. Hunter of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mary A. Luke of Hampton; two sons, Michael W. Ancel and Patrick J. Ancel of Newport News; his mother, Anna Ancel of Bay City, Mich.; two sisters, Isabelle Andrews of Detroit and Lorna Gillard of Bay City; two brothers, Francis Ancel and Robert Ancel of Bay City; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. Graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday in Parklawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Vincent J. Douglass.
