He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna L. (Steiff) Batzel on March 29, 1940, and his second wife, Clara (Stamm) Batzel in May 1990.
Born in Schaefferstown, Lebanon County, he was a son of the late George J. and Kate (Reigel) Batzel.
Batzel had been employed as a foreman by the former Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing. He was later employed as a bus driver by the Wilson School District for 20 years, and also served as a custodian for the district for 10 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Bern Lutheran Church, Leesport.
Batzel was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by three stepsons, Charles Kreitz, Lincoln Park, and Carl Kreitz and Miles Kreitz, both of Sinking Spring.
Batzel is also survived by two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Inc., Wernersville. Burial will be in Hain's Church Cemetery, Lower Heidlelberg Township.
