Per his Death Certificate, Scudder died from traumatic cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral lacerations from a compound depressed skull fracture due to an automobile accident. He was a welder in a machine shop. Joe Bateman was the informant on his Death Certificate.

Claud married Lucy Watson on June 23, 1929 in Hempstead County, Arkansas.

Jacksonville -- Funeral rites for C. S. Bateman, 49, victim of a traffic accident near here Friday night, will be read at 2 p.m. Sunday in Gragard-Spraggins-Swofford chapel here.

Dr. Bradford Curry, pastor of Central Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park here. Bateman died about 7:45 p.m. Friday from injuries received about 5:35 p.m. when his car crashed into the rear of a cattle truck on U.S. Highway 79 near here.

Hubert Otis Monk of Dallas, driver of the truck, was not injured.

Survivors are his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zan Bateman of Hope, Ark.; four sons, Francis C. Bateman and Billy Duncan Bateman of Jacksonville, Willie Thurman Bateman of Oceanside, Calif., and Joe Ralph Bateman of Laredo; a daughter, Mrs. Hubert Lewis of Jacksonville; three brothers, Willard Bateman and Ted Bateman of Hugh, Okla., and Horace Bateman of Jacksonville; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Huttash of Jacksonville, and Miss Bobbie Bateman and Mrs. Nellie Moore, both of Hugo, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
