Arthur Roland Abston, 87, of Charleston, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Art was born April 14, 1929 in Coles County, Illinois, son of Roy and Fern (Metzler) Abston. He married Patsy May Wilson, February 18, 1956 in Toledo, Illinois; she preceded him in death November 23, 2012. Surviving are their children: Joe Abston and wife Cathy of Charleston and Leah Lisa Bennett McPherson of Bloomington; grandchildren: April, Sunshine, Shantha, Travis, Janie, Teleatha, Tiffany, and Justice; great-grandchildren: Dalton, Haley, Kylie, Noah, Ashton, Avory, Kelsey, Sloane, Tristan, Alana, Aidan, and Grayson; step-sister: Patty Jo. He was preceded in death by one grandson: Todd Nance; brothers: Floyd Abston and Don Abston; one half-brother: Richard Combs.
Art was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a mechanic. He was a self-employed tree trimmer. Art loved music, and was a gifted guitar player, playing in bands at local venues.
