On July 29, 2016, Reida Alice McGoodwin departed this life in Denton, TX at the age of 104. She is the daughter of James Monroe Ballard and Cora Elva Ratliff Ballard, born in a two room home on November 9, 1911 near Graham, OK. She lived in Carter County the rest of her life.

She married Adrian LaFayette McGoodwin on March 3rd, 1928, and they began their life together on the farm in Woodford, OK. They had two children, Willene McGoodwin Grimes and MG James Ballard McGoodwin. She is preceeded in death by her son, parents, and nine siblings, Howard Charles Ballard, James Sanford Ballard, Corrine Elizabeth Ballard (Crow), Josie Ballard, Neva Berneice Ballard (Wells), Lee Cruce Ballard, Q.B. Ballard (Puckett), Woodrow Sunday Ballard, and McAdoo Roy Ballard.

They worked hard on the farm. She was the first to get up, worked all day long and the last to go to bed; barely having time to play cards or dominoes. Reida often said: “If I didn’t grow it, sew it, cook it, make it; we didn’t have it!”

She belonged to the Milo Baptist Church and she was involved in many community activities, including hosting the Annual Woodford Reunions. Besides creating a very hospitable home she found time to play bridge, crochet, square dance, do crossword puzzles, entertain friends, family or anyone else who came to her door. She never met a stranger. Everyone who graced her door, felt welcome and left well fed. Her passions were cooking for others, sewing for her family, and getting the highest score in bridge.

She is survived by her daughter, Willene Grimes of O’Fallon, Illinois and daughter-in-law, Jane McGoodwin of Fort Worth, Texas: 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; and countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She will be welcomed by family and friends in a far better place and will be missed by all.

Services will be held at the Milo Baptist Church in Milo, OK @ 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016. Services will conclude at the church.
