Augusta "Perry" Phillips, 79, died on Feb. 8, 2011, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center will be in charge of arrangements. The family will announce a memorial service for Mr. Phillips at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Phillips; one daughter, Charmaine Phillips; one son, Randall Phillips and his wife, Beth, all of Coates Bend; three brothers, Dan Phillips and his wife, Gert, Alexander City, Gene Phillips, Chicago, and Bill Phillips, Birmingham; two grandchildren, Molly and Ashley Ferguson, Chicago; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Pauline Allen. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served his country during the Korean War. He retired from Republic Steel after 38 years as a supervisor and was a Mason with the Glencoe Masonic Lodge No. 846. "When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared, miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone; it's all a part of the master's plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know; and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me, but let me go."
